ASKED QUESTIONS

We want you to enjoy every second you spend with us at Lake Arenal. If you like to be prepared for any eventuality, then read through our FAQs below.

What should I bring?

Packing for a watersport vacation is pretty simple. We’ve got the best watersport equipment you could ask for, so you don’t need to bring much. There’s room on the boat for you to store your bag, so just make sure it’s packed with:

• A bathing suit – or something you’ll be comfortable wearing in the water

• Something loose and easy to throw on when you’re on the boat

• A spare towel is always useful, so you can stay dry between rides – and when you’re ready to head back to dry land

• A spare change of clothes for the journey home – no one wants to ride in an uber in a damp swimsuit

• A hat and sunscreen (it can get pretty warm on the boat)

• Waterproof shoes or sandals (useful when you get on and off the boat)

You can get some incredible footage out on Lake Arenal, so you also might want to bring your GoPro setup.

We can provide food and drink at your request, so you don’t need to worry about lugging a big cooler onto the boat with you.

When should I arrive?

T-minus 15 minutes from your scheduled time is ideal, since that’ll avoid any unexpected delays/traffic from crossing into your time slot. Unfortunately, we are unable to refund any lost time out on the water due to last minute changes or delays, so please plan your travel accordingly so you can spend every second of your time having fun out on the water.

What happens in case of bad weather?

Arenal is one of the best watersport destinations, but, even so, heavy rains are a big part of Arenal’s climate – they’re what feed the forest and keep the national park’s fascinating plant and wildlife in careful balance – but they’re also a (literal) dampener when you’re trying to enjoy your watersport adventure out on the lake.

We monitor the weather very closely, but, if you’re from the area, you’ll know that many of Costa Rica's weather information apps can show contradicting reports. If the weather does not permit a good session on the lake, we refund all bookings and offer another available period.

How can I book?

Our booking platform is a work in progress so, right now, all reservations can be made via WhatsApp. You can let us know which activities you want to include in your package, and whether you want the optional extras like food and drink.

There are plenty of ways to get in touch with us and stay up to date with what we are getting up to out on the lake. If there is something that you forgot or would like to change ahead of your adventure, then please contact us on WhatsApp or email so we can make the changes for you.

Where are the best places to stay nearby?

There are so many great options

El Castillo

The entrance to the lake is closest to the small, picturesque town of El Castillo. It’s got a lot of options for travelers and, even better, the town is a 10 minute walk from our location on the lakeside, so you really can make the most of your time in the area if you choose to stay there.

El Castillo has plenty of great options for travelers, from rooms with panoramic views to cabins nestled right down in the unique world of Arenal. Whatever you choose, we’re confident it’ll take your breath away – more than once.

This is the best choice for out-of-towners who want to be as close to the park as possible, and away from the main tourist hotspots. With its small town ambience and cozy dwellings, El Castillo has become a popular attraction to those visiting the lake or exploring some of the surrounding trails and hot springs, but it’s retained that quaint atmosphere that we all love so much.

Many more extreme activities can be found in the surrounding area, another reason why this area has become one of Costa Rica’s most visited provinces.

La Fortuna

Alternatively, La Fortuna is our closest major town with many activities, places to stay and restaurants. It is 30 minutes away from our hub on Lake Arenal, and easily reachable by car or taxi.

There are plenty of things to do in La Fortuna, so it’s a good choice if you want to fill your vacation with color and noise and once-in-a-lifetime moments. Lonely Planet have put together a great guide to La Fortuna.

As you can imagine, it’s got a faster pace than El Castillo, so prepare to be rushed off your feet. It’s got some of the top activities in Costa Rica, and should definitely be high on the bucket list

What does my booking include?

That depends on what type of experience you’re looking for. You can keep things simple with a couple of paddleboards for an hour or two, or go all out for the full Lake Arenal experience and rent our boat (complete with meals, drinks, snacks, music, quality equipment, and professional instructors) for the full eight hours.

If you have something particular that you feel would make your experience better, don't hesitate to ask us and we will do our best to make sure that these items are on board and waiting for you when you arrive at Lake Arenal.

Protective equipment, such as life jackets and other floatation devices, is mandatory while on the boat, and we will provide all of this for you. If you wish to bring a helmet for your waterproof camera or GoPro, you are most welcome.

All our equipment will be available throughout your booking. You have unlimited access to wakeboard, wakesurf, waterski and tubing, and the expert knowledge of our instructors.

On the boat, you will find a place to keep your belongings dry and safe throughout the experience. Keep in mind that we can’t guarantee the safety of delicate items, as they may move around during the ride.

What languages do you speak?

Our staff are multilingual, so if you have a preference in language, just let us know when making your booking. English, Spanish, French, Hebrew, Dutch, and German are all possible.

What is the best way to get there?

There is no public transport to Lake Arenal, but finding a taxi or Uber from La Fortuna is very easy and can be booked ahead of time.

If you need us to plan transportation for you, please mention it in the booking or contact us on WhatsApp; we can arrange a ride to pick you up from your accommodation. Take note of where we are located when you book to make sure you don’t get lost whilst traveling to the lake.

What is our cancellation policy?

When it comes to making your personalized booking, please be mindful of the date and time that you would like your session with us. Cancellations or changes made within 7 days of your trip on the water are refundable, so just let us know as soon as you know your booking needs to be amended.

If you need to cancel your booking, then we can offer a 50% refund if you let us know more than 48 hours in advance. If you cancel within that 48 hour period, we can offer a 10% refund.

How difficult are the watersport activities?

The best answer to this question is this: however difficult you want it to be.

Difficulty level is totally subjective. Some activities will be challenging to some, and easy to others. If you have any experience in watersports or board sports, then you might find things easier to pick up than complete beginners. However, most of these activities can be learnt within a day – even for newcomers. With expert guidance, you can start looking like a pro in no time.

Besides, our 2022 Super Air Nautique G23 makes it possible to configure the waves to suit your skill level – and the type of challenge you want to concur.

Will it cost extra for people not participating?

No. The boat is booked for the time that you will spend in the water or enjoying your activity, and you and your party are free to sit and spectate the whole time, or take as many goes on the water as you can fit into your slot.

We’re not here to push people outside their comfort zone. If you have friends or family members who want to enjoy the experience of being on Lake Arenal from a comfortable seat, then they are welcome to stay on the boat, watch, and take photos and videos.
